Richard Sweeny

I have just discovered the amazing work of Richard Sweeney. His paper sculptures are amazing and I can't help but link them to millinery and how awesome a structured paper flower would look on a headpiece.

Final version

As promised here is a photo of the finished piece ( tiff is on the left). It is not very clear in the photo but I am please with how it came out.

Work in progress

I am working on a commission for another small headpiece for a friend. i am so glad someone apart from me appreciates the beauty that is leopard printed sinamay.

Tiffany has bought a selection of beautiful shaped cock feathers in tonal greys and browns and some daring pink feathers.

A girl after my own heart, I was instantly inspired.

I really enjoy doing commissions because they give me the space to experiment whilst sticking to the brief set by the wearer. I hope it is the start of many to come.

Check out my progress so far and watch this space for which one she chooses.......... sorry about the background!!

Don't give up you day job ................

Whilst exploring my options and trying to figure out how to make millinery more of a career than a hobby teaching weekend classes has always been at the back of my mind.

Imagine my enthusiasm when Camilla forwarded me an advert for hat class assistants needed for Katherine Elizabeth millinery.

It all happened very quickly and I found myself spending 4 hours on Saturday helping to teach a very civilised hen party how to make their own fascinators.

It was such good fun. If you know any up-coming hen parties check out her web-site.

Who knows I could even be one of your instructors!!
